My journey in the realm of beauty is not just a tale of artistic passion but a testament to the power of scientific understanding in enhancing aesthetic artistry.
Since my earliest memories, makeup has been my canvas and creativity, my tool. This lifelong love affair with beauty led me to expand my horizons into the specialized field of semi-permanent makeup (PMU) in 2018. My artistic eye, coupled with an unwavering attention to detail, has allowed me to excel in both traditional and semi-permanent makeup.
My commitment to blending art with science is deeply rooted in my academic journey. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Texas Southern University and two Master's degrees from Texas A&M University. These academic achievements have not only honed my scientific acumen but also deeply influenced my approach to beauty and PMU.
As a perfectionist at heart, I have always aimed to set the highest standards in every endeavor. This dedication was recognized when I was honored with the PMU Women of Color Award for Best New Artist in 2019. My journey continued with the prestigious SHEEO of the Year Award in 2022 and the Best Speaker in Science of Permanent Makeup Award in the same year. These accolades are not just awards but milestones that mark my commitment to excellence.
The world of PMU is ever-evolving, and so is my quest for knowledge. With over 10 certifications in the field, I am continually upgrading my skills and techniques. My approach goes beyond the surface, delving into the science of skin physiology, pigment chemistry, and safe practices. This in-depth understanding is what sets us apart at Artistry By Zuri, ensuring results that are not just beautiful but scientifically sound.
In addition to performing services and training artists, I founded PMUCon. It stands out as the only conference hyper-focused on women of color, acknowledging the unique properties of melanin-rich skin. PMUCon offers a range of enriching experiences including hands-on workshops, inspirational talks from industry leaders, live demonstrations of cutting-edge techniques, networking opportunities with professionals, and showcases of the latest products and technology in PMU. The aim of PMUCon is not just to advance artists' technical skills but also to create a space for professional development and growth, contributing significantly to the improved health results of women of color in the beauty industry.
Outside of Artistry By Zuri, I am a trained scientist and a licensed tattoo artist in the state of Texas. My scientific expertise extends to my current role as an Epidemiologist, where I am deeply involved in research on COVID-19. This blend of art, science, and research culminates in a unique perspective that I bring to the world of PMU.
My passion for learning continues as I am currently enrolled in a doctoral program, with completion slated for 2024. This pursuit of academic excellence is a cornerstone of my philosophy – to continuously evolve and blend the best of science and art in the services and training we offer.
